You may see wrapper names like "Connecticut Shade" and "Connecticut Broadleaf", but what does that mean exactly?
Connecticut Broadleaf originated in the Connecticut River Valley, around the 1600s and was the only wrapper variety grown until about 1900 when Connecticut Shade was introduced. Connecticut Shade tobacco is grown under shaded canopies in the Connecticut River Valley of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and southern Vermont. Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco is grown in the same region but is directly exposed to the sun.
